Mall Game Hard Mode
Same mall, faster hunter, extra step - and why Normal is the real tutorial.
Hard Mode is not a settings toggle. It is the same mall with less slack. Faster Mother loops, a second Filip objective before the management code works, and a glizzy spawn that moves to the hot-dog stand. Clear Normal at least once before you toggle it.
What changes on Hard
Mother - faster patrol loops, meaner camps. The cafeteria hallway camp is worse because she turns faster, not because the route changed.
Filip - after you have the door code, Filip adds an extra objective before the management pad accepts it. Do not arrive at management expecting the code to work. Come back to Filip first.
Glizzy - on Normal it lives on the BCPenney reception table in many builds. On Hard it has been spotted at the hot-dog stand. Check both if you cannot find it.
Fuel - the loop is the same; the window to complete it is shorter. Use the bathroom connector instead of the obvious corridor.
What does not change
The Quest-Reihenfolge is the same spine. Gavin, David, Dylan, Fatback, Amari - their positions do not move. Hard is a time tax, not a new map. Read the Komplettlösung before you read this page.
When to unlock Hard
After a Normal rooftop. You should be able to name every saferoom NPC in order and explain why the glizzy matters to Gavin’s quest chain. If you wiped on David’s arm, do not touch Hard. If you wiped on fuel, do not touch Hard. If you have never ridden the elevator, do not touch Hard.
What Hard actually tests
Patience. The route is identical. The skill gap is speed: how fast you read her patrol, how clean your bathroom connector is, how quickly you stun and grab David’s arm. Tickets from Codes matter more because you have fewer attempts per life.
Hard Mode badges
The End..? and The End..? (Hard mode) are separate badge lines. Run Normal first, then Hard if you want both. Do not toggle Hard mid-run hoping to double-dip.
Hard Mode strategy adjustments
The most impactful change in Hard Mode is not Mother’s speed itself - it is the reduced margin for error on the taser section. On Normal, you can take a few extra seconds to line up the stun on David’s arm. On Hard, that buffer disappears. Practice the taser-to-arm timing until it is muscle memory before entering Hard. The fuel loop similarly compresses: the window to grab all cans and return to Dylan shrinks by roughly 20-30%. Study the fuel route before toggling Hard, and plan your bathroom connector entry to avoid the camped corridor entirely. The extra Filip objective is a checkpoint delay, not a puzzle - return to Filip automatically after checking the management door once.

What changes in Hard Mode
Mother’s patrol speed gets a flat +18% boost and her grab cooldown is cut nearly in half. Item spawn rates for healing food drop ~35% compared to Normal. The flashlight drains twice as fast, and hunger falls ~50% quicker. Codes still work, but the rewards they grant (Tix, revive tickets) become survival-critical instead of luxury boosts because you will burn them.
First-hour survival priorities
Do not chase the glizzy spawn on Hard — the food court is too hot. Head straight for BCPenney saferoom and grab the taser from the reception desk before Mother rotates. Save your first revive ticket for the Fatback encounter in Tape 1, not a random grab. Eat before you run, not during chases: hunger damage outpaces healing ticks if you eat under pressure.
Common Hard Mode mistakes
Players who beat Normal assume they can rusher the tape. Hard punishes rushing — almost every wipe in the first ten minutes is from sprinting out of saferoom without checking sightlines. Another mistake: hoarding revive tickets. They do not carry across runs in Hard, so unused tickets at the tape end are wasted resources. Spend one on a teammate who knows the route, not on a stranger who will panic-run into Mother.
